Haida Gwaii, a 180-mile-long archipelago off the coast of British Columbia that is known for its silence, tranquility and culture.  In 1985 the Haida people, alarmed by the ecological damage caused by clearcutting, blockaded the logging road demanding change. As a result of this nonviolent protest, Canada created the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site. When planning when to go, National Geographic’s website mentions that Summer is usually the best time to visit as tourist services like tours, cultural events, restaurants, and lodging are readily available. However, if surfing is more of an interest for your family, Winter is peak surfing season.

Tunis, Tunisia, is often known for its random jam sessions in garages and coffee shops to humongous festivals, galleries and antiquities museums. It is also a Tunisian habit to know how to receive guests, making it a popular spot for guests to find balance in getting back as much as they give. Tunis offers a wide range of culture and attractions, so if a relaxing beach trip is on your mind, consider visiting between April and October, or if golfing and spa treatments are more your speed, consider booking a trip November through March.

National Mall, Washington D.C. features a two-mile park spanning from the Capitol grounds to the newly dedicated Lincoln Memorial. According to National Geographic’s website, “The Mall is embraced as hallowed ground not because architects willed it but because people chose it. Citizens congregate on the Lincoln Memorial steps—where Marian Anderson sang ‘America’ in 1939 and where Martin Luther King, Jr., gave his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech in 1963—to contemplate democracy’s ‘unfinished work,’ Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address words, etched in the monument to his legacy.” Among the best times to visit are June and July for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, July 4 for Fireworks for America and October for the Marine Corps Marathon.
